Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Cheboygan County Criminal History, you accept these data practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Cheboygan County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us may be kept long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. We do not voluntarily disclose the message beyond our organization, although a valid legal duty may require its release.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The referring website, when one is supplied
  • Device category and operating system
  • IP address assigned to the device
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help us understand traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points, in aggregate. A browser can block cookies through its settings, though disabling them may change how some features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
  • Maintaining site availability and performance
  • Routing a search request to the selected partner
  • Measuring which content visitors use most
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Cheboygan County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content explains how to reach the Cheboygan County Sheriff, local courts, Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, and Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. No visitor data collected here is assembled into a third-party criminal record or consumer report. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure rules govern information submitted through those features. We cannot set or change those practices, so review the selected provider's policy before running a search.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Cheboygan County offices, Michigan courts and agencies, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a reader follows an external link, that destination's privacy policy applies. Check its terms before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not control that outside tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring site traffic and operation
  • Search partners processing a query submitted to their tool
  • Advertising networks serving content on the pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will remove it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can vary by where a visitor lives. Michigan's Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.231 through 15.246, governs requests to public bodies, while MCL 28.243 governs Michigan State Police criminal-history collection and dissemination. Those government-record laws do not turn this private site into a public record custodian. For data held directly by us, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data we control
  • Ask what personal information we retain about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Object to certain processing where applicable

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised as the site or its services change. A replacement version will appear here with an updated effective date.
